JOONUM Afghan Hounds

Afghan Hound, Jack Russell Terrier Dog Breeder - Melbourne, VIC

With a passion for Lure Coursing & Afghans we imported Mittens to Australia from Finland in 2015. Our Latest litter carries some of the most influential bloodlines in the Afghan hound coursing and racing scene in Europe.

Our Dogs are all heavily patterned. Heavy patterning is a feature that's not often seen these days but makes for a much more easy care coat especially in the field.

All our dogs have excellent outgoing temperaments and make excellent family pets. Ignore everything you've heard about afghans till you have met our dogs! Some of our dogs have become psychiatric and mental health support dogs and this is not a low bar when it comes to having an outstanding temperament. If you're after a service dog please contact us as not every dog in every litter is suitable for this kind of work.

We provide affordable dog sitting when you go away and you will always know your puppy is being treated like family because they are family!

Once a year we have a little get together so you can meet other members of the JOONUM family and have some great fun with your dog.

Our dogs come with lifetime support and we're only a phone call away to answer any questions and help you solve any problems you're having with your new puppy or adult dog.

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.We test hearts, eyes and use the DNA panels EMBARK to monitor the genetic diversity in our breeding. We are also obtaining lines from Country of Origin (Pakistan, India, Afghanistan) and have imported semen from two Gen zero dogs which are 100% new genetic material.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes.All our puppies are raised in our home and socialised with small dogs (JRT) kids and cats. We have plenty of visitors too that handle our pups.

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes.All prospective pet owners are asked about previous dog ownership, training and lifestyle questions.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.All prospective puppy buyers need to make a zoom call or a home visit. Puppies are sold on contract with a health guarantee for a refund or replacement should your dog die from genetic causes (not old age)

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Answer. Yes.We provide life time ongoing support to all our dog owners as well as affordable dog sitting.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Answer. Yes.Buyers enter into a contract that states they must return any animal they cant keep to us for re homing.
