Ashsinhalt Whippets

Whippet Dog Breeder - Adelaide, SA

Ashsinhalt Whippets are ANKC registered, in-home purpose bred, true to function companions. Located in Adelaide, South Australia, we are not a kennel but a dog crazy family. Our pairings are made with a strong focus on health and temperament above all else. We strive to breed healthy, long lived adaptable companions through extensive health testing and superior puppy raising protocols.

Breeding whippets has been a goal and a passion of mine for many years. I am entirely dedicated to the preservation and improvement of this breed, ensuring I am breeding close to all aspects of the breed standard.

We are a couple of whippet enthusiasts with a unique goal; to bring back the original purpose and temperament of the Australian pedigree whippet, an outgoing, confident, stable and intelligent dog, a dog that can relax in a home environment, dedicated to loving its family, but intense and strong when working the field.

Our whippets are fully health tested in accordance with the WHippet Health Foundation: Hip, Elbow and Spinal scoring, full Embark DNA panel, ACES eye screening, Echocardiogram Heart screening, Thyroid and Rhabdomyolysis testing.

All of our dogs compete in a number of different dog sports including Conformation, Lure Coursing, Weight Pull, Sledding, Scent Work, Agility, Tricks, Rally and Obedience.

My website is kept up to date with all of our breeding plans and relevant information, so be sure to check it out and read our FAQ before contacting.

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.All dogs are health testing in accordance with The Whippet Health Foundation (https://whippethealth.org/Health_PreBreedingScreening) We test for: Hip, Elbow and Spine xrays and scoring, breeding from only the lowest scores. Colour Doppler Echocardiogram (Heart test) performed YEARLY on all breeding dogs for their entire lives, to ensure we are catching any late onset issues and changing our breeding plans to avoid those lines. ACES Eye test YEARLY, also for the entire life of every breeding dog, to ensure we are catching any late onset issues and changing our breeding plans to avoid any issues. BAER hearing test Thyroid testing every 2 YEARS Full Embark DNA panel, covering Myostsatin deficiency and many many more tests. Ensure youre only buying puppies from breeders who go above and beyond for health testing and are striving to improve the health and longevitiy on their breed.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes.All puppies are raised via Puppy Culture methods, this includes a heavy socialisation protocol. Puppies are introduced to a new smell every day from 3 days of age Puppies are introduced to a new sound everyday from 2 weeks of age (eg traffic noise, thunder, fireworks, airplanes, door knock, etc. played through speakers) Puppies are potty trained starting from 2 weeks of age and are set up for a 100% success rate. Puppies experience new dogs and visitors several times each week starting from 3-4 weeks of age. Puppies are introduced to a daily obstacle course starting from 6 weeks of age. Puppies go out on a daily car trip to the beach, bunnings, busy carpark, pet shop, cafes etc from 7 weeks of age. We go above and beyond to ensure our puppies are as socialised and well adjusted as possible before they leave to their new families.

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes.Yes absoluetly! We do not allow families to chose their own puppy, we know our puppies individual personalities so we can make sure our puppies are going to the right families by placing the puppy with the family that suits them the most. for example, I will not place a high energy puppy, in a quiet home who wants a couch potato or a shy puppy in a home with loud children, and vise versa.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.Our puppies are sold with the agreement to remain entire until at least 18 months-2 years of age, afterwhich, they may be desexed if the owner chooses. We do have a health guarantee on our puppies, which is void if the owner chooses to desex before this age. A puppy questionnaire will be sent upon enquiring for one of our puppies, this questionnaire just helos up get to know you and help up choose the best puppy to suit your family.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Answer. Yes.I highly encourage all of our puppy owners to stay in contact with me, ask me any questions if needed, I am here for the life of the dog.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Answer. Yes.All puppies/dogs must be returned to me in any case that they are looking to rehome. It is very important to me that I know where my puppies are and that I can offer them the best home.
