For Shiba Inus, this includes: - Hip and elbow scoring to assess and minimize the risk of dysplasia. - Patellar luxation assessments, as it can be a concern in the breed. - Ophthalmological exams to screen for hereditary eye conditions like cataracts or glaucoma - DNA testing for genetic disorders, including those relevant to Shibas, such as GM1 gangliosidosis and other breed-specific conditions. By understanding the genetic challenges associated with Shibas, we make informed decisions in our breeding program to prioritise health.

Preparation & socialisation

Answer. Yes.At Orienta Shiba Inu, we prioritise proper socialisation to ensure our puppies grow into confident and well-adjusted adults. From an early age, our puppies are safely introduced to various environments, new sights, sounds, and surfaces both indoors and outdoors. They interact with adults, children, and visitors to develop positive relationships with humans and meet friendly, vaccinated dogs under supervision to build good canine social skills. We regularly handle the puppies to accustom them to grooming, nail trimming, and being examined. In addition, we lay the foundation for basic training by introducing crate training, leash familiarity, and encouraging simple commands like sit and come. Our approach ensures that each puppy is well-prepared for life in their new homes, and we offer ongoing support and guidance to new owners to continue their socialisation journey.
