VonBIOS German Shepherds - Melbourne, VIC

German Shepherd Dog Breeder - Campbellfield, Victoria

VonBIOS is a Registered Breeder of working line, German Shepherd Dogs in keeping with the original breed standards of Captain Max Von Stephanitz, the founder of the German Shepherd Dog in the 1890's.

The intended purpose of the German Shepherd Dog was for herding, livestock, and family protection, providing continuing improvements through to the mid-1940s', then after World War II, the breed evolved in two (2) different directions during the '60s through to the new millennium due to political control during the post-World War II years.

Once the demand for livestock protection diminished, it wasn't difficult for Stephanitz and his Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV) Club co-founder (Artur Meyer), to recognise the fabulous intelligence and drive this new breed of dog could offer many diverse communities, industries, and government. This was evident with the introduction of the German Shepherd Dog into the Military in the Great War (World War I).

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.VonBIOS studies the pedigree databases at www.pedigreedatabase.com and www.working-dog.com to explore opportunities for breeding both in terms of genetics and epigenetics. Where ever possible, VonBIOS will utilise dogs with Schutzhund/IPO/IGP titles, including ANKC titles, as will be observed in our current Litter "E" on our web site - https://www.vonbios.com/litter-e

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes.VonBIOS uses "Early Neurological Stimulation Exercises (Bio-Sensing), as well as Critical Period Development training for the period to 16 weeks, but more probably to 4-5 months, as this provides significant opportunities to desensitised puppies from negative sight and sound issues.

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes.VonBIOS provides a 9-page "Puppy Information Paper" and a 2-page "Puppy Adoption Application" form.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.VonBIOS has a 16-page "Canine Adoption and Breeding Agreement" that prevents unwarranted desexing, puppy security, regulatory compliance, obedience training, controlled exercise, particularly when under 12 months of age.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Answer. Yes.VonBIOS has a comprehensive website that caters for Nutrition, Learning, Sterilisation, Food Warnings, Training Inspirations and of course, Telephone, SMS and Email support.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
