Hungarian Vizsla Dog Breeder - NSW

Metropolis Hungarian Vizslas is a small kennels on the upper south coast of NSW. First registered for breeding in July 2010, the principal of Metropolis has owned and been involved with the breed since 1999. She was mentored for 3 years by one of Australia's most successful and well known breeders, Brian Neaves, who with his wife bred Kimlise Hungarian Vizslas. With more than 20 years experience in Sydney's corporate world, Metropolis brings a professional service approach to all its dealings.

We prefer people to view our website or Facebook page for information about us, and email us direct at metropolisvizslas@gmail.com. We reply to all emails.

Metropolis breeds for temperament and type, and proudly continues the bloodlines of Kimlise Hungarian Vizslas. Like our mentor, Brian Neaves, we aim to produce excellent companions with temperament and conformation conforming to the breed standard, able to perform as working gundogs if desired.

Breeder Questionnaire

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
In 2010 the Club Health Officer advised me that there are no known breed health issues, although some individual dogs have health issues. Some bloodlines have epilepsy. I hipscore, which is the only test required by breed clubs. I have collaborated with an American breeder, which was invaluable for investigating bloodlines and learning about differences between the breed in America and Australia. 8 of my dogs live with vets or vet's family members. The former Puppy Registrar for the Victorian Club has 2 of my dogs and is available exclusively for Metropolis puppy families to provide the benefit of 30 years knowledge of Australian breeders and the breed, if they wish an independent source who knows my dogs.
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
I have puppy families visit at 6 weeks for a reality check. I have a few responsible people help me with the dogs because I work full time to cover the costs of living. Socialisation strictly is from 8 - 20 weeks, but by exposing pups to sensible people who know me and my dogs and are willing to follow biosecurity measures, my pups are even more outgoing than vizslas naturally are.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
Anyone looking for one of my dogs needs to demonstrate knowledge of the breed and provide information about how their dog will live, be exercised, be managed, and their reasons for choosing the breed. I like to meet people when I do not have pups before I agree to home a pup with them. Interstate buyers and I have at least one long Zoom session All families within driving distance come to meet the pups at 6-7 weeks so I can assess what pup best suits them and so they realise what they are taking home. Once pups are at least 10 days, I issue and ask families to review and return a signed contract, which largely reminds them of their responsibilities for the dog's health and lifestyle. I provide a comprehensive manual which is at least 75 pages long with information I have extracted from about 5 different expert books plus my own experience and that of my breed mentors. I also include 2 Zoom sessions with a BarkBusters Master Trainer for each family, to ensure they have access to support independent of me, if familues feel a need for it or have questions they are uncomfortable raising with me.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
See above. I have refunded deposits to approx half a dozen families where I have simply been uncomfortable with them owning one of my dogs.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
Dogs NSW registered breeders must support their dogs for their natural lives. Many of my owners voluntarily send me photos and updates. My Facebook page is used to provide helpful information, and many people who do not have my dogs have commented on it being helpful.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a puppy or dog if for some reason the new family are no longer able to care for it?
Yes
My contract requests people to let me know if they need to rehome their dogs, and I then manage it. This has only been needed half a dozen times with over 180 pups, and none were for fault of the dog. Where there are funds available after the costs of rehoming the dog, I refund them to the former owner.
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
No
I recommend buyers take it out, but I do not see it as my responsibility to organise something they will need to assess for themselves and pay for.
