Mahelu Labrador Retrievers focus on quality, soundness and type, but most of all the importance of a true Labrador -temperament, drive and willingness to please. Our Labradors are part of our family, they live in our house, join us on camping adventures or holidays. We breed for ourselves first, this means we only breed to introduce a new member into our family. The other puppies in the litter are destined to become a loyal loving Labrador in your home.

Breeder Questionnaire

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?

Yes

We conduct full DNA screening on our breeding parents, for all relevant, testable genetic diseases in our breed. All breeding parents have their hips and elbows scored, eye tested and vet checked. All puppies will have had their first vaccination, flea preventative, microchip, and wormed every 2 weeks before coming home with you. Our puppies will have passed their health check at the vet before leaving us. Any health, feeding or behaviour concerns will be explained to you. We are proud of the high quality diet we feed our puppies.

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?

Yes

We raise our puppies using Puppy Culture socialisation principles and are enriched using a range of sensory play activities. Are exposed to a range of household noises and outdoor noises to build their confidence. Our puppies get to meet a range of adults and children. We have a toilet training program so your puppy will be easier to toilet train once they come home with you. We begin to crate train our puppies so their transition to sleeping in their new homes will be as smooth as possible. Our puppies will be introduced to grooming, nail trims and baths.

Our puppies are born and raised in our family home. Our dogs are our family members and all live and sleep in the house with us. Our dogs live in a weather protected, temperature controlled area. Our puppies are born indoors but also have access to outdoor play and activities. We provide a stimulating environment for our puppies with age-appropriate enrichment activities. We pride ourselves on providing our puppies with a range of socialisation opportunities. Our puppies have to be a part of your family like they are in ours.
