Lukilab Labrador Retrievers

Labrador Retriever Dog Breeder - Lilydale, Victoria

When breeding I look not only to meet the breed standards of build and soundness, but also to the character of the dogs and to providing a follow up service for those who buy puppies from me. My dogs are all family pets and both they and their puppies are treated as such. In finding suitable homes for the puppies I breed I aim to match owners/families with suitable dogs.

Anyone wanting more information about the breed is more than welcome to contact me (Ann) via my mobile 0432 230 642.

Other sound sources of information are the Labrador Retriever Club of Victoria or the Victorian Canine Association (Vic Dogs).

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes. Pups are at age appropriate times from birth engaged in being handled, introduced to new objects, surfaces, noises , foods etc once every 2-3 days . They are when mum dog happy introduced to other dog members of our family (3 labs) and from birth to my husband and bitch family ( I use breeders terms to keep my lines going) . From 4-5 weeks they are introduced to other breeders and from 6 weeks to new familys. At about 3 weeks they are introduced to new surroundings ... first the area outside their whelping box , then outside play area and then courtyard area.

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes. chat/interview process, Encourage children to visit with parents .
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.- buyers are spoken to and engaged in interview/chat to determine suitability. All pups have age appropriate desexing clause in sale contract ( in line with current best practice) A Dogs Victoria sale contract , a specific health warranty for each pup. Additional clause in all sale contracts states I must be involved in all rehoming .

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Answer. Yes.All buyers have my fb , messenger and phone and email and are encouraged to contact me. further I set up a messenger group for each litter which I use as a notice board posting vet visit reminders, milestone reminders, food /diet changes as pups grow etc. owners encouraged to post pics and questions.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Answer. Yes.In sale contract I am to be involved in any rehoming ... what ever the reason. Fortunately this is not common.
