Labrador Retriever Dog Breeder - SA

Galestorm Labradors - Over 30 year experience producing quality pedigree ANKC Labradors of true type and temperament.

Galestorm Labradors is a relatively small kennel only breeding on average 1 well thought out litter per year. I began showing & breeding Labradors in 1987, first in Michigan USA then moving to Adelaide South Australia in 2000 and importing 3 of my foundation Labradors with me.

For over 30 years Galestorm Labradors and direct descendants of Galestorm Labradors have been involved in various canine disciplines. This includes producing several conformation Show Champions, Multi Best in Specialty Show winners, Retrieving trials - Novice, Restricted & All Age, dogs for Assistance and of course the cherished pet.

Over the years I have welcomed many new members to our Galestorm family. It's always a pleasure to hear updates from people who own a Labrador from dogs I bred many years ago but more importantly to know how much their Galestorm Labrador was a part of their life.

Feedback from past pet owners is the best resource of information I can have when planning future litters. It's the breeder that knows their bloodline and has that extensive knowledge of what they have produced over the years and have an understanding of what has worked well, what has not and why it didn't.

My ethos as a dog breeder is having an intentional endgame in mind. To only produce healthy and happy puppies with a desired expression of true Labrador type and temperament then work to isolate and homogenise those expressions. My mantra is "be purposeful, transparent and communicate". In the end we as breeders try to do everything possible to produce healthy and happy puppies.

I am a member in good standing of Dogs SA/ANKC, The Labrador Club of SA inc. (Current Committee member) and a member of The Labrador Club of VIC. Internationally, I am member of the American Kennel Club (AKC) and various Labrador clubs in USA.

About our Dogs
We generally only breed blacks but on occasion have produced a yellow or chocolate. All Galestorm breeding dogs are ANKC registered pedigreed, have ANKC's required suitability health testing, exemplary temperaments and any other recommended health clearances. For example, Hip/Elbow scores, up to date DNA tests for genetic disorders, Heart Echocardiogram and Eye Certification.

Our puppies are born in the house and held daily. They are Vet health- certified, wormed, vaccinated, microchipped and Pedigree registered Limited with ANKC. Puppies also come with historical information on their parents, I.e., copies of their pedigrees, DNA profile & genetic testing, registered CHEDS (canine hip elbow scheme) and a lifetime of breeders' knowledge.

Whether you choose a Galestorm Labrador as your next family pet or not we are happy to answer any questions you may have and help you find the best Labrador fit for your family.

Breeder Questionnaire

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
I have been breeding for over 35 years and you learn a lot in that time. I use current testing available to have the best opportunity to produce healthy quality puppies that are correct to the breed standard.
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
All pups are born in the house and held daily. Once it is safe to do so I take them into my work where they provide some valuable mental health care days to my co workers. I work for the Department for Child Protection. Some are also give an opportunity to visit children in need. They also have access to other adult dogs at Galestorm
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
We have a questionnaire as well as have a verbal discussion about whether or not a Galestorm puppy is the right fit for them at this time. We also invite them to visit sire and dam as well as pups once it is save to do so. Around 4-5 weeks. Once meeting a family and if we do not think a pup would be a good fit at this time we will definitely advise them of this and try to offer other solutions Pups are sold on the basis that they will be de sexed age appropriate and although we cannot guarantee how individual pups develop we do encourage ongoing communication to ensure the best start in live for the pup. We also request we are advised of any serious or proposed genetic disorder that may come up as health screening and DNA doesn’t cover everything.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
As stated above we screen buyers in 3 phases. 1) their response to our questionnaires 2) our personal feeling after verbally speaking to them 3) meeting them and the entire family with who the pup may live with.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
We start providing information as soon as pups are confirmed healthy and allocated to their new owners . This usually starts just before they are born We provide photos soon after birth and begin drip feeding the following information weekly; Photos, are preparing for brining pup home Things that they will need for the car, crate, bedding, type of food, chews toy, outside day area and training advice. We found that if we drip feed this information over the 8 weeks they are waiting for the pup to come home they are more prepared and retain the information better. On the day the pick up their pup we go over everything again, provide handouts and a puppy pack with includes registration papers, health reports and ancestry history of their puppy’s parents.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a puppy or dog if for some reason the new family are no longer able to care for it?
Yes
Yes we do. But we first try to work with the family as the best place for their pet is with them but we understand life’s complications can get in the way. This is often very hard for the family to give up their pet so we try to encourage the family giving up their pup meet and discuss with the prospective new own.
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Yes
Petcover 6 week plan Our vet also provides a 6 week plan so we encourage pet own to take advantage of either one
