We are breed enthusiasts who have recently located to South East Melbourne who are owned by a duo of beautiful Lappies. We don't breed often and only occasionally have litters planned.
If you contact us and we don't have anything, you are welcome to join our waiting list, or we can refer you to other Finnish Lapphund Breeders who share our sentiments and views on how dogs should be bred and raised, in a loving home environment. Breeder Questionnaire
Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
The health and genetic diversity are paramount for the longevity of this breed. All my dogs are health screened according to recommendations from the Finnish Lapphund Club of Finland and we follow the guidelines produced by the Finnish Lapphund club of Victoria
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
Pups should always be raised in a home environment with access to human interaction. Once old enough and on their feet, friends and family are invited to meet them and well as potential owners, children, the elderly etc. Our puppies are incredibly well cared for and we invite and encourage potential owners to come and see how we raise our puppies and ask as many questions as they can.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
A sales agreement outlining what owners can expect from me and what I expect from them. This includes a desexing arrangement upon physical maturity if we have no other arrangements, and a health guarantee amongst other things. I have an enquiry form which outlines basic questions for potential families to think about and will not let a puppy go to someone I haven't met.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
Potential owners, upon expressing their interest, will be sent a 12 page document outlining details of the breed and how I raise them, they will then be asked to fill in an enquiry form from my website. That is followed up with some emails to clarify anything further and ensure they are a good fit. I will meet with the potential owners or have a trusted friend meet them on my behalf.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
Puppy owners are sent a 64 page document outlining the basics of raising a puppy (toilet/crate training, diet, socialisation, grooming, relevant equipment etc) plus any handy articles I've found. I am also there for the life of the puppy. Each puppy is sent home with a puppy pack containing toys/collar/blanket and health/registration information as required by Victorian Legislation
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Yes
Each puppy is sent home with 6 weeks free pet insurance. The company I currently use to offer this is Pet Plan.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Yes
I insist on being the first point of contact if such a situation arises.
