Doklao Korats - Korat Breeder - Sydney, NSW

Korat Cat Breeder - Dulwich Hill, NSW

We are a small boutique cattery located in the Inner West of Sydney. We have been breeding and successfully showing Korats under the Doklao prefix since 1994. Our Korats are very much part of our family and have access to a large enclosed CATMAX outdoor garden. Our kittens are raised inside our home with lots of tender loving care and individual attention. Kittens receive two health checks and two F3 vaccinations and microchipping before adoption. We provide a clean and stimulating environment, quality food and veterinary care along with lots of love and human company. We breed for good health and temperament and so that others may experience the joy of being owned by a Korat. We don't have any kittens available now but we expect to have a new litter later this year. All kitten enquiries welcome. Please note that Korats are not related to Russian Blue cats and if you are currently considering and/or researching different blue cat breeds please check The Perfectpets blog Which blue cat is that? . Not all blue breeds are the same especially when it comes to temperament.

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test in accordance with the current standards and recommended guidelines for your breed? Can you demonstrate your knowledge of any required DNA or other health related test results concerning your breed (if applicable).
Answer. Yes.All our Korats currently in breeding come from imported bloodlines tested for GM1 and GM2

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your kittens are appropriately socialised? Please provide details about how you raise your kittens to ensure that their environmental and social needs are met, that they are suitable as pets. And, do you ensure that the new family understands and is equipped to continue this socialisation?
Answer. Yes.Raised in our home and provided with a stimulating environment, quality food and lots of human attention.

Placement & matching

Question. Is ensuring that your kittens go to the right home a high priority? How do you ensure that the kitten will be a good fit, and be well cared for in its new home? Do you have a verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.Before committing to a kitten we offer potential buyers an opportunity to come and see our Korats at home and ask them about their previous experience with cats generally and what they know about the Korat breed, home environment, cost of cat care, food, litter and veterinary expenses, holiday arrangements.
Question. What written information about the conditions of sale, warranty, and information concerning the care and maintenance of the breed do you provide?
Answer. Yes.All potential buyers are screened to ensure they can provide the best possible home for our cats and kittens. We use The Korat Cat Fanciers Sales pledge and provide a health warranty, desexing at six months is mandatory for all pet kittens sold and is part of our sales agreement.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support? For example: Help with introducing a kitten to other animals; help with any health or behavioural problems that might occur.
Answer. Yes.We always follow up our kitten sales and owners send us updates from time to time. We remind them about desexing from 5 months on and request copy of the desexing certificate from their vet. We transfer pedigree papers to the new owners only after we receive proof of desexing. Owners are encouraged to let us know if there are any issues with their kittens and we monitor for the first 6 weeks after sale.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a kitten or cat if for some reason the new family are unable to care for it?
Answer. Yes.The Korat sales pledge requires owners to let us know if their cat/kitten has to be re-homed and the most people will contact us in the first instance. However in our many years of breeding very few adult Korats required rehoming.
