Burmese Cat Breeder - Hallett Cove, SA

We run our cattery on a small scale, which enables us to concentrate on quality, type and temperament instead of quantity. Densue has had a very successful show career and we breed for the Show Bench as well as wonderful, loving pets. Our kittens are part of our family and are all raised inside our home.

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test in accordance with the current standards and recommended guidelines for your breed? Can you demonstrate your knowledge of any required DNA or other health related test results concerning your breed (if applicable).
Answer. Yes.My cats were tested for HCM. I’m a closed cattery and do not have any health problems. My kittens all have Vet Health Certificates going to their new home.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your kittens are appropriately socialised? Please provide details about how you raise your kittens to ensure that their environmental and social needs are met, that they are suitable as pets. And, do you ensure that the new family understands and is equipped to continue this socialisation?
Answer. Yes.My kittens are all reared in our home. They are born up stairs and then go into the kitten room after their first vaccination at eight weeks. They are well socialized by our family and they receive a lot of attention and play. My Grandson spends time with them so they are also use to children. I always breed two litters at a time so they have plenty of playmates if the litters are small. Last year I only had four litters for the year.

Placement & matching

Question. Is ensuring that your kittens go to the right home a high priority? How do you ensure that the kitten will be a good fit, and be well cared for in its new home? Do you have a verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.I always meet the people and also speak on the phone. I personally prefer not to sell to people who have very small children. Every kitten buyer receives a laminated care sheet on feeding and general knowledge of a kitten and products to use and not to use. They also receive a pamphlet on plants that are dangerous to cats. I do suggest if everyone in the family is gone all day, baby should go with a companion as Burmese are a very social animal and become unhappy if they are lonely.
Question. What written information about the conditions of sale, warranty, and information concerning the care and maintenance of the breed do you provide?
Answer. Yes.All my kittens are desexed, microchipped and vaccinated x 2 before leaving Densue. Babies all have a Vet Health Certificate I don’t have a buyers questionnaire but I do ask many questions. I only sell to inside only homes. If something was to happen to the baby, it became ill, I would replace the kitten or refund.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support? For example: Help with introducing a kitten to other animals; help with any health or behavioural problems that might occur.
Answer. Yes.I’m available if there is a problem.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a kitten or cat if for some reason the new family are unable to care for it?
Answer. Yes.I have only had that happen once and I gave them all the sights to advertise their kitten. They wanted to do it themselves as their daughter was allergic to the kitten. The people who took the kitten came to me later and took a companion for him. So all worked out well.
