Cleverblue - Purebred Australian Cattle Dog Breeder - Toowoomba, QLD

Australian Cattle Dog Dog Breeder - Toowoomba, QLD

We are the smallest of boutique breeder on 10 acres outside Toowoomba. We have four highly intelligent, well put together females named Cleverblue Bon Bon, Cleverblue Lady of the Rings, Pyecreek Pepper and Pavesi Southern Cross. Our much loved and stylish boy is Blueverado Yowie. Each member of the family has one dog.

Our foundation girl Pepper was born Sept 2012 and comes from working parents, both with magnificent Pedigrees. She is remarkable. Pepper is so easy to command and keen to work. Pepper has been trained on chooks. She works them gently and quietly. We can give her a command and go inside for a coffee, leaving Pepper to complete the job.

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.My dogs are chosen based on beautiful temperament, Mains register worthy conformation and type including movement and perfect teeth, bone structure etc. All my dogs are Orivet genetically tested for prcd and pll as well as several less common genetic diseases. All puppies are BAER hearing tested at 6 wks. I have had blood collected from a previous litter as part of a healthy control group to take part in a study of genetics behind hearing deficits in cattle dogs done by Dr Sue Sommerladd. My dogs are in tip top health, regularly vetted and fed on premium dog food only - Royal Canin and Taste of the Wild. Before breeding I have the parents vet checked each time. Nutrition is carefully managed during pregnancy. I ultrasound, xray and vet the week before birth to check litter number and puppy sizes and all puppies and mother are check within 12hours of birth. Puppies are weighed 3rd hourly for the first 24hrs and comp fed Wombaroo if needed to ensure none fall behind. Weighing is then 12hourly unless I have concerns and becomes daily until on solid food. Puppies are fed probiotics as well as formula soaked royal canin starter. They are vetted again at 6wks. Puppies are vaccinated, microchipped, BAER hearing tested and vet checked at 6wks. Puppies come with Registration papers on limited pet register from the governing body Dogs Queensland.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes.Puppies are played with by children from birth and their human contact from birth is a minimum of 12hrs a day, usually longer.

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes.I conduct a personal interview over the phone to get to know prospective owners and establish that they have a suitable environment for the puppy, will be a capable owner for my breed and shall be able to care for the puppy for its full lifetime.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.I personally interview each buyer applicant. I encourage de-sexing and discuss the advantages of this at length with all buyers. Puppies teeth, descended testes in males, BAER hearing test results and vet check results are all given to prospective owners.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Answer. Yes.I provide new owners with instructions for preparation before their puppy arrives. I am available to help with any concerns once the puppies go to their new homes and provide an instructions folder with each puppy. I am contactable by phone, text and email to all owners to answer questions.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Answer. Yes.I endeavour to choose only loving homes that would never decide to part with their cattle dog as this breed is so loyal, attached and loving of their owners re-homing is distressing. However, I do understand that this is sometimes necessary particularly for reasons such as deteriorating health of the owner. I am contacted by people wanting older dogs as well as puppies and have been able to help with this in the past.
