Bushkenheim Norwegian Forest Cats Australia

Norwegian Forest Cat Breeder - Sydney, NSW

We have been showing & breeding Norwegian forest cats since 1997,having relocated from the UK bringing new pedigree lines from Sweden & Norway.

I have travelled to Sweden and France and lots of countries in between to see these beautiful cats and have been fortunate to have been granted the joy of owning some great examples of the breed. In prior years I showed under FIFE in the UK and some shows in Europe, now having relocated to Australia I am showing under NSW CFA. We have been fortunate to win Group 1 titles for the last 5 years.

Affectionate, mischievous kittens raised lovingly indoors are sometimes available. Blues, Black, tabbies, smoke, red, torties with & without white or silver. All kittens are registered & vaccinated.

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test in accordance with the current standards and recommended guidelines for your breed? Can you demonstrate your knowledge of any required DNA or other health related test results concerning your breed (if applicable).
Answer. Yes.DNA testing provides information on a lot of health traits - HCM/ PKD/ GSD IV in my breed. The parents are scanned and DNA'd to provide health reports. I believe in open disclusure so as to find the right home and I would keep a kitten whose health was compromised, if that came about.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your kittens are appropriately socialised? Please provide details about how you raise your kittens to ensure that their environmental and social needs are met, that they are suitable as pets. And, do you ensure that the new family understands and is equipped to continue this socialisation?
Answer. Yes.All my litters are born in the Lounge and study with us, they grow around us and are handled from birth.

Placement & matching

Question. Is ensuring that your kittens go to the right home a high priority? How do you ensure that the kitten will be a good fit, and be well cared for in its new home? Do you have a verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.We talk to the new owners and discuss their lifestyle and their family set up , their housing situstion and make sure they understand responsible ownership.
Question. What written information about the conditions of sale, warranty, and information concerning the care and maintenance of the breed do you provide?
Answer. Yes.We provide a kitten sale of contract, a care letter for the health of the cat and vow to be available till the day they pass away. ( unless we are gone first LOL )

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support? For example: Help with introducing a kitten to other animals; help with any health or behavioural problems that might occur.
Answer. Yes.Absolutely!! Thats what a breeder should do, we also provide information packs on these matters and respond to any texts/mails we receive,.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a kitten or cat if for some reason the new family are unable to care for it?
Answer. Yes.Only had to do this twice in 25 years.
