Trulore Chihuahuas, Vic.

Chihuahua Dog Breeder - Dumbalk VIC

Trulore was established with the ANKC (DogsVic) in 2003. We do not have 'kennels' as such and Chihuahua babies are available only occasionally to loving family homes.

We are located in beautiful Dumbalk, country Gippsland, about 1 1/2 hours from Melbourne and 15 minutes from either Mirboo North or Leongatha.

We show our dogs regularly in ANKC competitions and breed the occasional litter of home-raised, well-socialised babies. Our Eddie (BIS Australian Champion Adorachi The Shape Of You) was the top Smooth Coat Chihuahua in Australia for 2025, on both the Dogzonline and Dogdom point score rankings.

Please note that our next Chihuahua litter will not be until late 2026. Expressions of interest for prospective puppies, long and smooth coat, are invited. Please email Kelly at [email protected] with any enquiries.

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.Chihuahuas are generally a very healthy breed and are not known for many inheritable issues. Several of our dogs, including Eddie, hold full DNA profiles and our puppies all leave us with DNA parental verification, Our Chihuahuas all have their patellas checked, and we do not breed with girls, or use stud dogs, that are under 2kgs in weight. We are not currently breeding Golden Retrievers, but all of our Goldens, commencing with our first, Patrick(1994-2010) were hip and elbow scored with excellent results and held clear eye and heart certificates from canine specialists. We later added DNA testing for inheritable conditions/diseases when testing became available.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes.Our puppies are born in our lounge room and do not graduate to their outside pen until they are close to 6 weeks of age. They are held, weighed and cuddled every day by our large family. They are well socialised and accustomed to a busy household, children, and other pets.

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes.I insist on speaking to and then meeting all prospective new owners. Visits are encouraged after health checks/vaccinations around 6 weeks of age and I also update weekly with pictures and videos. I converse regularly with puppy families. I do not send puppies via pet transport to people I have not met.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.As provided by DogsVic, we have health reports from our vet for each puppy. Mums have a pre-whelping certificate of health and a post-whelping cert also. All of our dogs are health certified as fit to breed. There is an agreement of sale as provided by DogsVic that is signed by us as the seller, and by the purchaser of each puppy. We guarantee our puppies to be healthy, provide 8 weeks free puppy insurance, and request a health check be undertaken by the purchaser within 3 days post collection.

Insurance options

Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Answer. Yes.We provide 8 weeks of free pet insurance with PetsOnMe.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Answer. Yes.We provide a thorough folder of information and an extensive puppy pack which includes our various forms of contact, and the offer of advice whenever needed, no matter the time of day or night.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Answer. Yes.I always request that buyers approach me first to take the puppy back for rehoming, if ever that need arises, and this is also stressed in my Welcome and info sheets that I provide in each puppy folder.
