Jane Goodall on Perfect Pets – A Message to Animal Lovers
Jane Goodall has long been a guiding voice for those who care deeply about animals. We’re so honored to share this very special message from Jane — a personal reflection on her connection with Perfect Pets, and the values we hold dear. Her words speak to the heart of what we do — and why it matters.

"Hello. This is Jane Goodall, and I want to send a message to all of you who love animals.
Perfect Pets was started by my friend Maria Arnold. I met her maybe 20 years ago when she was part of a small team that helped to establish the Jane Goodall Institute in Australia.
She told me that she'd read my book In the Shadow of Man, and it had inspired her to work at our Jane Goodall Institute Tchimpounga Sanctuary for orphaned chimpanzees in the Republic of Congo.
When she got back to Australia, she became increasingly aware of the prevalent, though often unintentional, cruelty to animals — the puppy farming — when dogs are bred and sold entirely for profit. And those breeders are sadly unconcerned about the welfare of the bitches, who are simply used to produce litter after litter until they can no longer do so. They are exhausted, and there are no provisions for these exhausted females.
In addition, many of the offspring have health problems and sometimes temperament issues, and they so often get abandoned in shelters and farms because the owners simply can't cope.
Maria, like me, is a dog lover and became increasingly distressed as she learned about all this, and decided she had to try to do something to help these unfortunate dogs.
And so she started Perfect Pets, an organisation that seeks to end puppy mills and provides guidance and support to help people better understand what it takes to become a responsible pet owner — not only owners of dogs, but also cats and other pets.
I'm really pleased to learn that Perfect Pets has now helped over 10 million pet lovers, while also supporting animal welfare projects, and is even involved in some wildlife conservation efforts.
