TRUDA'S AUSTRALIAN MIST - The breed founder's Australian Mist Nintu Cattery

Truda Straede, creator of Australia's only home grown pedigree breed, the smooth and purry Australian Mist with a 'cat breeder's hobby' in the large and hairy, Maine Coon (see my other profile on Perfect Pets - Icecoons Maine Coons). Breeder for more than 35 years, author and Editor of many books on Australian Mist, and Editor of a much loved breeder's manual "Breeding Cats.... a practical guide" based on all that ( inevitable!!) experience.

Our Maine Coons and Australian Mist grow up together, wonderful companions for each other, people and other pets. If you are looking for the quintessential family pet cat an Australian Mist may just tick all the boxes, and if your fancy turns to a quiet attentive (hairy!!) companion, Maine Coon cat is the go!!

Unfortunately, there are many online breeders who falsely claim to have Australian Mist kittens for sale, the truth is that there are very few registered Australian Mist breeders in Australia, and Truda's Australian Mist Nintu cattery, is one of the few options if looking for a true Australian Mist kitten, with the assurance that you are dealing with the most ethical cat breeders in Australia.

When you purchase one or more kittens of this still fairly rare breed of cat, you will not be able to take the kitten/s home until they are at least 12 weeks old, by which time they will have had vaccinations against Feline Infectious Enteritis, Feline Upper Respiratory disease, are desexed, are micro-chipped and are pedigreed/registered.

Indoor cats only!
If interested in a Nintu kitten, pleans note that you will be required to guarantee to keep your Australian Mist pedigree cat indoors - preferably with an enclosed outdoor run, before you will be able take one of these delightful and friendly cats home.

When you are looking for Australian Mist cattery with kittens available whose provenance is the very fountain head of the breed, look no further than Truda Straede and the original Australian Mist Nintu Cattery.

PLEASE NOTE: I do not advertise on other platforms - ONLY HERE on Perfect Pets.
If you see advertisements elsewhere using my photos, description, registered prefix, or breeder registration number, you are probably looking at potential imposters and scammers. If you have seen anything like this please contact me via Perfect Pets.

About The Australian Mist:
The Australian Mist, the only home grown Australian breed of pedigree cat, is the result of careful breeding between Burmese, Abyssinian and Australian Tabby cats. The primary aim of the breed was to create a people centred indoor cat. Dr Truda Straede, the breed founder selected for a delicately spotted or marbled short, fine, coat in six colours (brown, blue, chocolate, lilac, gold and peach) on a cat with no extremes in appearance, with large green eyes and a temperament to die for. Always relishing the company and affection of humans, these friendly, intelligent cats are happy to be handled and are very disinclined to bite or scratch, making them an ideal choice of pet when there are children in the household.

The breed was officially recognised in April 1986. At this time Truda Straede was the only Australian Mist breeder, but in the years since the breed has been recognised around the world and there are now registered breeders as far away as Japan, UK, USA and Germany.

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test in accordance with the current standards and recommended guidelines for your breed? Can you demonstrate your knowledge of any required DNA or other health related test results concerning your breed (if applicable).
Answer. Yes.MY MAINE COONS ARE DNA TESTED FOR THE TESTABLE HCM MUTATION, THE AUSTRALIAN MISTS ARE TESTED FREE OF ANY POTENTIAL DEFECTS FOR WHICH THERE IS A DNA TEST. I am also pursuing a long term goal of eradicating any blood type B carriers from both populations through DNA testing.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your kittens are appropriately socialised? Please provide details about how you raise your kittens to ensure that their environmental and social needs are met, that they are suitable as pets. And, do you ensure that the new family understands and is equipped to continue this socialisation?
Answer. Yes.Kittens are born in the house and brought up with home sounds and sights. As they grow older they have their own rooms in which to run around, where they are visited and played with - except the lucky litter which spends its time crawling all over me and my sitting room!!

Placement & matching

Question. Is ensuring that your kittens go to the right home a high priority? How do you ensure that the kitten will be a good fit, and be well cared for in its new home? Do you have a verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.I interview potential buyers, and invite them to make a preliminary visit where we may ''inspect'' each other.
Question. What written information about the conditions of sale, warranty, and information concerning the care and maintenance of the breed do you provide?
Answer. Yes.I provide a specific breed booklet about each breed, containing diet and care instructions and some background for each breed. I provide a signed undertaking about the health status of each kitten based on the Victorian model agreement - and my website states what you can expect, up front, if you buy a kitten from me.

Insurance options

Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Answer. No.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support? For example: Help with introducing a kitten to other animals; help with any health or behavioural problems that might occur.
Answer. Yes.Invite questions and feed back via phone and email, for life.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a kitten or cat if for some reason the new family are unable to care for it?
Answer. Yes.Advise them how to place the cat themselves, if it is an unwilling surrender, or take the cat back and place it myself.

Clubs & Associations

Question. Are you a current member of any breed clubs and/or associations?
Answer. Yes.ANCATS
