Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.Odindisa breeding Vallhunds are genetically diversity tested with UC Davis. Vallhunds are DNA health tested prior to breeding to ensure puppies are clear by parentage of genetic concerns. Vallhunds do not require hip, elbow or back scoring.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes.Odindisa is a small breeder and only have puppies occassionally , which gives the ability to focus wholly on raising well rounded puppies. Puppies are raised the house as part of the family, guided by Puppy Culture principles & Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS). Puppies are raised as part of the family and are in the household environment. The puppies are provided lots of socialisation after their first vaccinations at 6 weeks old, and they love their outings in the car and to Bunnings. Personalities and homes best suited for the puppies are not assessed until 8 weeks.

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes.Applicants complete a questionnaire and then consider a contract. We also arrange a meet and greet. If you are in another state we will try to arrange a meeting with a fellow breeder and their Vallhund.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.Complete a questionnaire so that I can ensure the most suitable puppy is selected for you. An agreement is provided, which outlines health guarantees and conditions of sale. Odindisa does not have a de-sexing agreement.

Insurance options

Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Answer. Yes.Odindisa has partnered with Knose to provide the very best value pet insurance for your peace of mind. Puppies come with FREE pet insurance that begins as soon as the puppy joins your home. This allows you to focus on what really matters in those first weeks: settling your pup into their new home and enjoying those precious early moments.
