Dumbarton Scottish Terriers - Melbourne VIC

Scottish Terrier Dog Breeder - Melbourne, VIC

Based in Melbourne, I have been dedicated to Scottish Terriers since 2015.

Actively involved in conformation dog shows, I campaign several of my Scottish Terriers across Australia. My current show team features Perdita (Multi Champion Excited Soul Perdita) and Astrid (Dumbartons Runnin Up That Hill), with exciting new imports expected in late 2025 and early 2026.

As a Dogs Australia (ANKC) & Dogs Victoria accredited breeder, I adhere to the Rules & Code of Ethics set by Dogs Victoria, breeding solely to enhance and preserve the breed. All of my breeding dogs compete in Dogs Australia (ANKC) sanctioned conformation shows to ensure they meet the breed standard before being considered for breeding.

I provide comprehensive Orivet DNA profiles for all breeding parents, along with bloodwork results for selected breeding bitches, to prospective families and show homes. Additionally, I strictly follow the Dogs Victoria Model Health Management Plan for Breeders.

My puppies are raised on Purina Pro Plan, complemented by premium nutrition from Lyka, K9 Natural, Prime100, Ziwi Peak, and The Butchers Dog.

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.All my dogs are fully DNA tested with Orivet Genetics for vWD type iii, CMO & DM. I also do full blood panels on my breeding bitches.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes.I adopt the principles of the Puppy Culture Program of Neurological Development and also perform ENS (early neurological stimulation) practices between day 3-16 of life.

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes.Most of my puppy families wait 6-12 months for a puppy. I have several interviews with them, either in person or over zoom/facetime etc. I have a fairly strict induction program before I consider people for one of my puppies. I also allow some to go to show/other breed discipline homes.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.As above I conduct several interviews after people have applied for a puppy. Dogs Victoria also mandates several documents be provided to puppy buyers such as puppy health check certificates, certificate of health from the breeder (me), contract of sale which stipulates no desexing until minimum of 14 months of age and much more. I'm quite strict.

Insurance options

Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Answer. Yes.Yes, my puppies all go home with free 30 days insurance from Trupanion, with no waiting periods.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Answer. Yes.Yes, I tell my families in our first interview they are 'stuck with me'. It's also one of the obligations I agreed to as part of the Dogs Australia prefix I have,
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Answer. Yes.Yes, as per the contract of sale the dog must come back to me, as that's part of my obligations as a Dogs Australia breeder and I can also work with the family to rehome with another family member, only if I deed that family/residence is suitable, the same way as I did for the initial family. Thankfully this has not happened yet.
