ATHELAS LAGOTTO - ACT/NSW

Hello, we are the Truffle Patch a small truffle farm in the Canberra Region nestled amongst the wineries of Murrumbateman. In 2009 our family fell in love with Truffles and the Italian Truffle Dogs, Lagotto Romagnolo. Follow our facebook page 'Athelas Lagotto - ACT / NSW' and share our journey.

All our puppies are clear by parentage for genetic disorder and their parent's hip and elbow scores are within the breed standard.

All our puppies go to their forever homes vet checked and socialised with children and other animals. Our Junior Truffle Hunters will also be exposed to truffle scent and truffle play. All our dogs are proven truffle hunter and we are confident their puppies will be too!

We have carefully chosen our breeding lines to ensure our dogs are a beautiful combination of gentle, social and curious. Our girls are delightful gentle natured and love to be around people and to play and snuggle with kids and adults alike. They are also incredibly intelligent, curious and energetic and loves to hunt for truffles.

We have a litter due on 20 October 2025 and are expecting another in mid-December 2025.

We are always happy to speak with people about the breed and to have visitors come and see our dogs to learn more about Lagotto.

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.No health issues for our breed.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes.Our puppies are handled from birth and grow in a loving home exposed to children and adults. We encourage families getting a pup to visit frequently during the pups first 8 weeks. This allows the puppies to get know lots of people including their family. It also helps us match families to a pup whose personality will fit right into the family. The pups spend time outside exploring under supervision and have air conditioned and heated housing as appropriate for the season.

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes.We get to know our families and help place the right puppy with them. We also help to educate our families on raising a well socialised and well trained pup.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.Our puppies are health checked and we guarantee them being free of pre existing conditions. We get to know our families through a puppy request form and speaking with them regularly over the course of the pups first 8 weeks.

Insurance options

Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Answer. No.We can provide details if requested.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Answer. Yes.We have a Facebook community and are always happy to speak with and provide advice to our families.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Answer. Yes.We would definitely assist if there was a need to rehome an Athelas dog.
