Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test in accordance with the current standards and recommended guidelines for your breed? Can you demonstrate your knowledge of any required DNA or other health related test results concerning your breed (if applicable).
Answer. Yes.Orivet testing is done with all of our sires and dams and documentation provided to our buyers

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your kittens are appropriately socialised? Please provide details about how you raise your kittens to ensure that their environmental and social needs are met, that they are suitable as pets. And, do you ensure that the new family understands and is equipped to continue this socialisation?
Answer. Yes.Yes, socialisation is a core part of how we raise our kittens at Pawfect Blues. How we socialise our kittens: All kittens are born and raised inside our family home in Lakemba, Sydney — not in a separate cattery or facility. From birth, they are handled daily by family members and are exposed to normal household sounds, activity, and routines. Our kittens are also socialised with other cats in our home, which helps them develop confidence and appropriate social behaviour with other animals. By the time they leave us at 12 weeks of age, our kittens are litter trained, comfortable being handled, and well-adjusted to a home environment. They are playful, confident, and accustomed to human interaction. How we prepare new families: We use a detailed waitlist application process that asks prospective owners about their living arrangements, whether they have other pets, whether they work from home, and whether their household is prepared for a new kitten. This helps us assess suitability and match kittens to appropriate homes. Every kitten leaves with a Welcome Pack containing care information to help the new family continue their kitten's socialisation and settle them into their home. We also remain available to our kitten families for ongoing advice and support after collection. We ensure all prospective owners understand that British Shorthairs are strictly an indoor breed and that owning a kitten is a long-term commitment.

Placement & matching

Question. Is ensuring that your kittens go to the right home a high priority? How do you ensure that the kitten will be a good fit, and be well cared for in its new home? Do you have a verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.Yes, ensuring our kittens go to the right home is a top priority for us. Our screening process: Every prospective owner must complete our detailed Paid Kitten Waitlist application before being considered. This form serves as our primary screening tool and covers: - A personal introduction — we ask applicants to tell us about themselves and their family - Current living arrangements (own, rent, shared living, living with parents) - Whether they've discussed the commitment with their landlord, partner, or family - Whether their home has adequate space for a kitten to play, explore, and roam freely - Current pet ownership — including details on existing pets, their behaviour, and any health conditions - Whether they work from home - Understanding that British Shorthairs are strictly an indoor breed We review every application personally before accepting a deposit. If we have any concerns about suitability, we follow up directly via phone or message to discuss further before proceeding. Why we require a $500 deposit: The non-refundable deposit ensures we're dealing with committed, serious families — not impulse buyers. It filters out enquiries that aren't genuine and helps us focus our time on families who are truly ready for the responsibility. Our expectations of new owners: We make it clear in our application that owning a kitten is a significant commitment. We specifically ask whether applicants understand that we are not responsible for rehoming should their living circumstances change — for example, if a new landlord doesn't allow pets. This ensures prospective owners have thought through the long-term commitment before proceeding. Every kitten also comes with a Welcome Pack containing care information so new families are equipped from day one.
