DREAMCOONS MAINE COONS, SYDNEY NSW

Maine Coon Cat Breeder - Bargo, NSW

My name is Tayla, and together with my partner Russell, we are the very lucky caretakers of the cats here at Dreamcoons. We are registered breeders with Cats NSW Inc, and are located just outside the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW.

All of our breeding cats are DNA tested for HCM (MYBPC3 gene), SMA, PKD, and PKDef. More importantly, our cats are also heart scanned via echocardiogram, and hip scored, by specialist vets.

*** We are expecting a litter in early September, and possibly a second in October - for more details on upcoming litters, please refer to our website ***

Please visit our website to get to know our cats, and our Facebook page to keep up with our day to day lives!

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test in accordance with the current standards and recommended guidelines for your breed? Can you demonstrate your knowledge of any required DNA or other health related test results concerning your breed (if applicable).
Answer. Yes.Maine Coons are pre-disposed to both HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), and HD (hip dysplasia). All of our breeding cats are DNA tested for the MYBPC3 gene (ONE gene that can cause HCM, there are more unknown genes), SMA (spinal muscular atrophy), PKD (polycystic kidney disease), and PKDef (pyruvate kinase deficiency). More importantly, our breeding cats are all heart scanned via echocardiogram, and hip scored, by specialist vets. The results of all testing is provided to new kitten owners in their kitten pack.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your kittens are appropriately socialised? Please provide details about how you raise your kittens to ensure that their environmental and social needs are met, that they are suitable as pets. And, do you ensure that the new family understands and is equipped to continue this socialisation?
Answer. Yes.Our kittens are raised as part of our family.

Placement & matching

Question. Is ensuring that your kittens go to the right home a high priority? How do you ensure that the kitten will be a good fit, and be well cared for in its new home? Do you have a verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.Finding the right fit for our kittens is very important - this is achieved by maintaining a close relationship with a potential purchaser, via email/messaging, or face to face at cat shows.
Question. What written information about the conditions of sale, warranty, and information concerning the care and maintenance of the breed do you provide?
Answer. Yes.Our kittens all leave home with a detailed contract, signed by both myself and the new owner.

Insurance options

Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Answer. Yes.Our kittens leave with up to 8 weeks free pet insurance with Knose.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support? For example: Help with introducing a kitten to other animals; help with any health or behavioural problems that might occur.
Answer. Yes.Our kittens come with a lifetime of support, they are forever a part of the Dreamcoons family!
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a kitten or cat if for some reason the new family are unable to care for it?
Answer. Yes.It is written in our contract that our kittens/cats are not to be rehomed without our knowledge, this is to ensure we are able to assist with rehoming, should the situation warrant it.
