You can also check our list of dogs and puppies for sale in Canberra.  It's important you fully understand the needs of the breed you're interested in so learn as much as you can and researching thoroughly (see a dog breed list and breed information).  While some things are obvious - for example some breeds need more exercise or grooming, other issues may not be as well known, like inherent health issues that you should ask the breeder about.  Contacting the relevant breed club with any questions is strongly encouraged.  They are a great source of information and support.   Make sure your lifestyle allows for the time and attention your puppy or dog require.   Puppies must be well socialised to avoid unhealthy behaviours like anxiety and aggression. Watch this video on puppy socialisation which stresses that puppies need to be socialised between 12-18 weeks of age or you miss the ''critical socialisation window''.

Dog breeders on Perfect Pets are all ANKC registered breeders (Dogs ACT), but we still encourage anyone that is talking to breeders to follow advice on finding a reputable breeder.   Experienced breeders understand genetics, potential health issues, and will ensure that the temperament of their dogs is sound.  Reputable breeders care about their dogs and will want to know about the type of home you will provide.  You can expect questions and often checklist before they are willing to consider you as a parent for one of their pups.   There are many advantages to adopting a  puppy or dog that you may not have thought of.   Please contact dog shelters and dog rescue groups in Canberra as well.
