Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test in accordance with the current standards and recommended guidelines for your breed? Can you demonstrate your knowledge of any required DNA or other health related test results concerning your breed (if applicable).
Answer. Yes.I send DNA samples to Orivet for testing for Hypokalaemia in Burmese cats. (None of our cats has ever been found to be homozygous for the disease and only once has one of our cats been diagnosed as a carrier. That cat was removed from the breeding program.) I have also used DNA testing for blood group determination in Cornish Rex cats. Finally, I have used DNA testing many times for colour testing (not a health problem, of course).

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your kittens are appropriately socialised? Please provide details about how you raise your kittens to ensure that their environmental and social needs are met, that they are suitable as pets. And, do you ensure that the new family understands and is equipped to continue this socialisation?
Answer. Yes.Kittens are handled regularly from birth so they are quite used to interacting with people. When they are old enough they are also released into the rest of the house for an hour or so so they meet the other cats (i.e. so they meet more than just their mother).

Placement & matching

Question. Is ensuring that your kittens go to the right home a high priority? How do you ensure that the kitten will be a good fit, and be well cared for in its new home? Do you have a verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.Well, of course I want my kittens to go to a good home. When potential new owners come to meet the kittens we have a wide-ranging verbal interview designed to help me decide if there are likely to be any problems. It's not foolproof, of course, but it's done the job so far. Over the years, I have had many customers return to me for another kitten.
Question. What written information about the conditions of sale, warranty, and information concerning the care and maintenance of the breed do you provide?
Answer. Yes.I provide a document (four A4 pages) that I have developed over the years on all aspects of kitten care.

Insurance options

Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Answer. Yes.PetCover pet insurance, for six weeks.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support? For example: Help with introducing a kitten to other animals; help with any health or behavioural problems that might occur.
Answer. Yes.Yes, I do offer ongoing support. All my kitten buyers have my phone number and I am available for consultation at almost any time.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a kitten or cat if for some reason the new family are unable to care for it?
Answer. Yes.Yes, I usually tell new owners to contact me first if, for some reason, they are unable to keep the kitten/cat.

Clubs & Associations

Question. Are you a current member of any breed clubs and/or associations?
