Thundapaw Maine Coons - Maine Coon Breeder - Bungendore, NSW

Maine Coon Cat Breeder - NSW

I have a background in breeding and showing top quality German Shepherd Dogs for nearly 20 years, and I am now committed to improving the MAINE COON breed in in Australia. I am enjoying this wonderful breed, and am always working towards breeding healthy, happy kittens of the "Euro" type.
I exhibit my kittens and cats as often as possible, as I believe every breeder should, to ensure that they are gaining valuable feedback from judges.

Our foundation breeding queen came from a highly respected MC breeder, and we've since imported from NZ (with European lines), . . . we've also been fortunate to have new Russian lines via a recent new queen, and we have a new young stud male here (by a lovely German import), . . . and our exciting news is the arrival soon of our stunning new import -stay tuned.

Kittens available occasionally, as I am a small breeder striving to produce top quality, healthy Maine Coons with outstanding temperament. Kittens available as family pets companions only. Kittens are raised within our family household. Kittens sold desexed, wormed, vaccinated X 2 , litter trained and microchipped. Kittens also come with 6 weeks free pet insurance.

*** Not only do we DNA test all of our cats, , , , we also have regular heart scans by a veterinarian cardiologist specialist. We also have our breeding cats hip x-rayed and scored, to lessen the risk of any hip issues ever arising.

LOCATED BUNGENDORE 30 minutes from Canberra CBD.

Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test in accordance with the current standards and recommended guidelines for your breed? Can you demonstrate your knowledge of any required DNA or other health related test results concerning your breed (if applicable).
Answer. Yes.I regularly do full DNA testing, plus also heart scans before breeding with an individual. I then have my adults scanned again approximately every 2 years. I also have my cats hips xrayed and scored.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your kittens are appropriately socialised? Please provide details about how you raise your kittens to ensure that their environmental and social needs are met, that they are suitable as pets. And, do you ensure that the new family understands and is equipped to continue this socialisation?
Answer. Yes.Yes, our litters are birthed inside the house, where they stay with us and their mother until they leave for their homes. they are included in everyday activities as soon as they are old enough to venture from the birthing box, and then the kitten room. They receive lots of regular handling and plenty of love and attention.

Placement & matching

Question. Is ensuring that your kittens go to the right home a high priority? How do you ensure that the kitten will be a good fit, and be well cared for in its new home? Do you have a verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.Yes, this is our number 1 priority. Plenty of questions. Meeting the owners in person if possible.
Question. What written information about the conditions of sale, warranty, and information concerning the care and maintenance of the breed do you provide?
Answer. Yes.yes, we have a sales contract that is signed by everyone that is lucky enough to become a home for a Thundapaw kitten or retiree, kittens are all desexed before they leave us. The contract explains our health guarantee.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support? For example: Help with introducing a kitten to other animals; help with any health or behavioural problems that might occur.
Answer. Yes.I am always available to help or chat. there is no such thing as a silly question. If I cannot answer, I will do my best by asking my respected peers for their advice about any matter. I need to be kept up to date about the development of my kittens and cats, and enjoy receiving any pics and updates.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a kitten or cat if for some reason the new family are unable to care for it?
Answer. Yes.I will also help others if I can, which I have done in the past.

Clubs & Associations

Question. Are you a current member of any breed clubs and/or associations?
Answer. Yes.Yes, I am a registered breeder with Cats NSW Inc, and I actively exhibit and shows held in NSW, Act, and occasionally interstate. I am also a founding member of a relatively new club, The Cool Country Cat Club, with was formed in 2017, primarily to give enthusiasts that live in and around the Canberra region, although they may be living in NSW technically, some more shows to attend locally.
