Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test in accordance with the current standards and recommended guidelines for your breed? Can you demonstrate your knowledge of any required DNA or other health related test results concerning your breed (if applicable).
Answer. Yes.We health test in accordance with the current standards and recommended guidelines for the Ragdoll breed. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and genetic integrity within our breeding program. Our breeding cats are DNA tested for known hereditary conditions relevant to the breed, including: Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) – a heart condition with a known genetic marker in Ragdolls Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) – although less common in Ragdolls, we screen to ensure healthy lines. Only cats that are clear or non-affected by these conditions are used in our breeding program. Health, longevity, and the wellbeing of our kittens and breeding cats are central to our practices, and we are always guided by current veterinary and breed-specific recommendations.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your kittens are appropriately socialised? Please provide details about how you raise your kittens to ensure that their environmental and social needs are met, that they are suitable as pets. And, do you ensure that the new family understands and is equipped to continue this socialisation?
Answer. Yes.We place a strong emphasis on early socialisation to ensure our kittens grow into well-adjusted, confident companions. All of our kittens are raised in our family home, where they are exposed to a variety of everyday household sights, sounds, and routines from an early age. They are handled daily with love and care, which helps them become comfortable with human interaction and builds trust. We focus on nurturing calm, affectionate temperaments by: - Encouraging gentle play and interaction - Introducing them to common household noises (vacuum, television, visitors, etc.) - Providing a safe, stimulating environment with toys, scratching posts, and climbing spaces This hands-on approach ensures our kittens are emotionally and physically prepared for life in their new homes. We also take the time to educate new families about the importance of ongoing socialisation and provide guidance on how to maintain routines that support confidence and bonding. Each family receives detailed information on care, integration, and developmental needs to ensure a smooth transition. Our goal is to raise not just healthy kittens, but happy, well-socialised companions who thrive in their forever homes.

Placement & matching

Question. Is ensuring that your kittens go to the right home a high priority? How do you ensure that the kitten will be a good fit, and be well cared for in its new home? Do you have a verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.Ensuring that each of our kittens goes to the right home is a top priority. We are deeply committed to matching our kittens with families who are not only excited to welcome a new companion, but who also understand the needs and long-term responsibilities of caring for a Ragdoll. To ensure the best fit, we take the time to: - Provide honest information about the Ragdoll breed's temperament, care needs, and suitability for different households - Offer ongoing support and education before and after the adoption process We also encourage future owners to ask questions and discuss their expectations so we can confidently guide them toward the right kitten personality for their situation. Our goal is not just to place kittens, but to create lasting, successful matches where both kitten and family can thrive together.
Question. What written information about the conditions of sale, warranty, and information concerning the care and maintenance of the breed do you provide?
Answer. Yes.All new owners receive a comprehensive information pack which includes, A health guarantee covering veterinary checks, desexing, vaccinations, microchipping, and parasite treatment, Breed-specific care information, including feeding, grooming, litter training, and socialisation tips, Recommendations for follow-up veterinary care and ongoing health management. Our goal is to equip every new family with the knowledge and support they need to provide a safe, loving, and well-prepared home for their new kitten. We also remain available for ongoing advice and support throughout the life of the cat.

Insurance options

Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Answer. Yes.Yes, we offer 6 weeks of complimentary pet insurance through trupanion upon request. We understand that peace of mind is important when bringing home a new kitten. This initial insurance cover helps protect against unexpected veterinary costs and allows new owners to focus on bonding with their kitten during the transition period. We’re happy to arrange this cover for buyers who request it at the time of adoption.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support? For example: Help with introducing a kitten to other animals; help with any health or behavioural problems that might occur.
Answer. Yes.Yes, we proudly offer ongoing support to all of our kitten families. Our commitment to our kittens doesn't end at adoption. We’re always available to assist new owners with any questions or concerns that may arise, whether it’s in the early transition period or years down the track. Support includes: - Guidance on introducing your kitten to other pets or children - Tips for settling your kitten into a new environment - Assistance with any health, behavioural, or training concerns - Advice on diet, grooming, and ongoing care specific to the Ragdoll breed We encourage open communication and love receiving updates on how our kittens are doing. Whether it’s a quick question or a need for more involved advice, we’re only a message or phone call away.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a kitten or cat if for some reason the new family are unable to care for it?
Answer. Yes.Yes, we are committed to the lifelong welfare of every kitten we breed and will always assist with rehoming if a family is no longer able to provide care. We understand that circumstances can change, and if for any reason an owner can no longer keep their cat, we ask that they contact us first. We will help facilitate the rehoming process or welcome the cat back into our care if needed. Our priority is ensuring every Mountain Hollow Ragdoll has a safe, loving, and stable home for life.

Clubs & Associations

Question. Are you a current member of any breed clubs and/or associations?
Answer. Yes.we are current members of a recognised breed association. We are proudly registered with ANCATS (Australian National Cats Inc.), membership number 23070. As active members, we uphold ANCATS' standards for ethical breeding, cat welfare, and responsible cattery management.
