Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.I test each breeding individual for recommended panel DNA tests to assess if individuals carry heritable diseases or traits. I use panel tests for basset hounds (thrombocytopaenia, glaucoma, autoimmune disorder) and wire dachshunds (PRA, neurological issues).

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes.We provide adequate handling, introduce puppies at a young age to other local handlers, socialize puppies after 3 months at local shows, and attend puppy schools at our local veterinarian's office (Moorong St. Clinic in Wagga Wagga NSW).

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes.We refuse to sell female puppies to breeders of pets. We sell pets with a spay neuter contract and limited registry. We make sure all owners are properly informed about breed issues, and willing to train and exercise their pets in a safe environment. A fenced yard and plenty of time to exercise and train are a must. We follow up our inquiries with other breeders who have been contacted by the same parties as well. We suggest owners insure their pets with medical insurance where possible.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.I perform personal interviews and make sure the pups are not sold to pet breeders or those not prepared or informed about breed issues. A fenced yard is a must, as well as proper training and nutrition. We provide a health guarantee for the pup at the time of sale, 2 shots, microchipping and deworming. We do not rehome before 10 weeks of age.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Answer. Yes.I provide my phone number and am available for training and health advice. If the puppy suffers a chronic health condition later, we offer future replacement. We suggest training where possible and assist interested parties in showing and training their puppies.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Answer. Yes.We assist any of our pets or show dog owners to rehome their dogs if required.
