Belgian Shepherd Breeder - Dogs - NSW : Perfect Pets Profile

Dalibel is one of the oldest Belgian Shepherd breeding prefixes in Australia. Dalibel was passed onto us by our long term mentor Rae Bryce. We are continuing a long held tradition of breeding Belgians who are healthy and can compete in any arena successfully while still being fabulous family companions.

Dalibel is now proudly registered to Adam and Tanyia who both love and appreciate the legacy passed onto them by Rae. Adam handles the dogs at conformation shows and Tanyia does the training, grooming and dog sports competitions such as herding and scent work. Adam is now also successfully competing in herding.

Our dogs live inside our home with outside access and love regular bushwalks, training and hours of free playtime through the bush and paddocks on our property.

Due to our belief that breeders should only ever breed to better the breed, and that each litter requires a lot of research and planning, we don't breed very often. We are a small kennel built on our love of this awesome breed and hoping to help a few others fall in love with the breed as well.

Our dogs are hip scored, elbow scored, eye tested and have DNA full breed profile. All health results are available.

Our puppies are whelped and raised in our home so they become used to the day to day activities of a home and get lots of socialisation. All puppies are socialised, health checked, receive basic training, are registered, micro-chipped, vaccinated, wormed and come with life time advice, support and a fun puppy pack.

Dalibel Belgians have imported two of our current dogs from Hungary and Canada to utilise some of the best bloodlines from overseas. We do this to ensure that our Belgians maintain the excellent temperaments and working abilities that Belgians are renown for.

We encourage you to look at our web page and see more about our Belgians and what they do with us to ensure they are living full and active lives. We would also love you to visit and meet our dogs.

Breeder Questionnaire

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
All our dogs (breeding and non breeding) are hip, elbow, eye and DNA tested. Our dogs all compete in dogs sports as part of their health and well being. None of our females will have more than three litters, nor are they bred prior to three years or past 8 years. They all have a working title or show title prior to being bred and litters are planned at least 12 months in advance. Current issues with Belgians are missing testicles (the biggest issue) and reactive temperaments. There is a history of epilepsy and hip dysplasia in the breed. There is a limited gene pool in Australia so we have imported two females (Hungary and Canada) and semen from several males (Europe and America) over the last 6 years as part of our breeding strategy. This is part of our desire to breed healthy belgians with the temperament to work and be good family members.
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
We have a puppy play area with different noises, textures, play equipment and regularly change this environment. We rotate visitors while they are young (4 to 8 weeks) and we then take them to cafes and public places that are safe for young puppies. We also follow the AVIDOG puppy program to ensure full mental development and learning capabilities.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
Conditions of sale such as if they no longer want the puppy at any age it is returned to us (to avoid dogs getting onto the rehome cycle), health guarantee, interviews when they first show interest by way of a conversation and and then survey by email once puppies are born. We also encourage prospective owners to meet the mother and also observe them with the puppies in my home.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
The highest. We don't often breed so prospective puppy owners need to be prepared to wait and through this process we do get to know a fair bit about them. We also observe the way they interact with our dogs and how much they seem to enjoy and focus on our dogs. We do written and verbal surveys and work to develop relationships with prospective puppy owners so they will be comfortable letting us know if there are any teething problems. We offer free training and support should there be are any challenges.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
Puppy owners get a puppy pack with information and we provide ongoing support. We set up a FB group so they can share progress with each other and see how the other puppies are going. We always offer to see the puppy/dog when in the area and share videos of my own dogs being trained. We also mind puppies we have bred should the owners go away.
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
No
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Yes
A condition of sale is that the puppy needs to be returned to us for rehoming. This is to ensure they are taken care of and we always know where they are.
