Adoption, Shelter & Rescue, Welfare - HAMLEY BRIDGE, South Australia : Perfect Pets Profile

We are small-scale rescuers in South Australia, working with homeless dogs on a case-by-case basis. Our dogs are privately fostered, and are not kenneled. I am a registered, ethical breeder of border terriers, who also occasionally takes on dogs in need of care.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do your dogs come desexed, vaccinated, or microchipped?
Yes, all dogs that I rescue are adopted out with all this vet work done.

Can I surrender my dog to you?
We can occasionally take on surrendered dogs on a case-by-case basis. Please get in touch so we can establish you and your dogs' needs. Please note that, in most cases, dogs that are undesexed require a surrender fee of $100 to help cover our expenses.

Where do your dogs come from?
Generally, the dogs we take into care are surrendered to us. Occasionally, we take on dogs from pounds in SA and interstate. We also work with other rescues, so sometimes take on dogs they have acquired by other means.

What is the adoption fee?
The adoption fee for a dog is based upon their costs. Typically, our dogs sell for $150-$400, but they can be more or can be less, depending on that dog's individual situation.

How do I adopt a dog?
Please call Tegan on 0421 506 482 or send a message if there is a dog you are interested in adopting.

Breeder Questionnaire

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
No compulsory testing for our breed through the ANKC, but all dogs have been DNAed tested for SLEM (breed specific), or are clear by parentage.
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
Extensive socialisation using a combination of Dr Ian Dunbar and Puppy Culture.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
All buyers have to agree to a contract and agreement of sale. They are informally verbally interviewed.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
I talk to those interested in purchasing a puppy carefully. I encourage them to meet me and my dogs at home or at dog sports. I do not keep a waiting list, as I expect puppy buyers to proactively contact me.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
I will take any dog back for the entirity of their life - this is specified in the sale agreement.
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Yes
Free 6 weeks of insurance provided with PetPlan.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Yes
I will take an animal back. I would not promote the buyer re-homing the dog themselves.
