Bernese Mountain Dog Breeder - Dogs - Narre Warren North, VIC : Perfect Pets Profile

Berneridge is located 40 minutes south east of Melbourne, Australia in a beautiful rural setting.

For the past 6 years, our lives have been blessed with the companionship and love of the Bernese Mountain Dog.

We are a small breeder, and are delighted to raise an occasional litter; however, you may be assured that we are very aware of health concerns within the breed, and take exceptional care to produce quality Bernese of proven genetic backgrounds. We are dedicated to maintaining the wonderful Berner temperament and breed standard, while placing special emphasis on health and longevity.

Breeder Questionnaire

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
All my breeding dogs are hip and elbow x-rayed after the age of 12 months. I carry out DNA testing. I keep full health records and plan years in advance my breeding program.
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
I provide large puppy pens with all sorts of tunnels, ramps, play and climbing equipment. I use assorted toys and equipment to provide different textures and noises during their first 8 weeks. I also play CD's that are specifically designed for puppies in their first couple of months.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
Every family that has one of my puppies has been to my home and spent time with myself and my adult dogs before they are even placed on my waiting list. With each litter I have puppy people come at 4, 6 & 8 weeks of age. At the four week visit we play with the whole litter and discuss health issues, feeding routines, worming, training and general items for new puppy owners. At the 6 week visit I give each family a printed "puppy pack" that includes information on what we have discussed at the four week visit: Health, Hip and Elbow x-raying, toileting tips, toys, socialization tips, health insurance, characteristics of the breed etc..... With the 6 week visit, I also ask them to bring a toy and a towel that will be placed with my litter in the days coming up to the pup leaving for their new "forever home". This toy and towel go home with the puppy and help integrate them into their new home from my home. I have found this very successful for both the puppy and new family. From the 8 weeks of age, the pup can go to it's new 'forever home'.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
Oh absolutely!!! I put in endless amount of time and energy meeting and getting to know my potential puppy owners. I have them come to my home (usually on more than one occasion) so that we can sit with my dogs and take our time over a cup of coffee to talk everything "Bernese". I let them know all about the breed - the good and the bad - so that they are making an educated decision wether this is the breed for their family or not. If I do not feel a connection or that they are not the right family for a Bernese, I will never contact them to say that I have a puppy available.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
Absolutely! Every single one of my puppies families know that I am only ever a phone call away. They are aware that I am here for the good and the bad and that I will do everything I can to be a help and of assistance.
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Breeder has not answered this question
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Yes
It is stated in my contract of sale that I will help and assist with all re-homing of my puppies if required. In my 10 years of breeding I have only ever had to re-home 3 dogs. Each time, the re-homing was a complete success. I am with and supporting all parties through the whole process.
